12.59 TWh of natural gas withdrawn from the Inčukalns storage facility this season
The unified natural gas transmission and storage operator JSC “Conexus Baltic Grid” (“Conexus”) informs that the natural gas withdrawal season 2023/2024 has ended, during which 12.59 TWh of active natural gas was withdrawn from the storage. The highest monthly withdrawal during the season was in January, with 4.14 TWh.
The largest daily volume of natural gas in the amount of 199 GWh was consumed on the 4th of January during the past storage withdrawal cycle.
To ensure energy security and stable natural gas reserves in the storage, Conexus continued to provide system users with physical injection of natural gas into the storage during the withdrawal cycle, thus ensuring natural gas storage for the needs of the region. A total of 2.15 TWh of natural gas were injected during the past withdrawal cycle, with the natural gas storage currently standing at more than 11.3 TWh at the end of the withdrawal season. This represents a 25% increase compared to last year at the end of the withdrawal season.
During the natural gas injection season, until the end of the injection season on the 14th of October 2023, the storage facility was filled to 88% of the available technical capacity for the 2023/2024 storage cycle, the highest level in the last five years.
Conexus has determined the maximum amount of natural gas to be stored in Inčukalns UGS for the 2024/2025 storage cycle, which according to measurements and calculations has been set at 24.7 TWh.
